About.

Purpose and Mission

EFRStandard.Org is dedicated to the standardization, advancement and adoption of Electronic Facility Records for facility managers across all industries. EFR includes the process of collecting, organizing and updating the facility information using documentation standards developed by consensus across markets and industries. We believe in creating a universal and open-sourced standard for facility and asset data that makes it easy to port and connect that data across platforms. Our mission is to create a new generation of facility documentation standards  that is continually evolving as the technology landscape in which facility managers operate continues to change and mature.

EFR Overview

Electronic facility records are an electronic repository of facility information that is instrumental for building maintenance and operations. They become the digital version, or twin, of your building. EFR is helping the next generation of facility managers become more proactive, knowledgeable, and efficient with their buildings, assets and people. Without standardization, electronic facility records become very subjective to the user and typically make it hard to move their facility data from one system to another. Facility managers can often feel "married" to their system - for better or worse. By standardizing EFR, facility managers have a blueprint for converting their manual documents and drawings into usable, digital data. As well as adopting processes for which to update, document and plan from their facility asset data and are empowered to own their data and use it in electronic systems of their choice.
EFR Standardization addresses the following areas:
  • EFR-compliant information elements
  • Processes to plan, develop, build, and manage an EFR Management System
  • Levels of EFR Compliance
One of the easiest ways to understand the concept of EFR is to compare it to that of the EMR, or Electronic Medical Records. Electronic medical records are the electronic version of the paper chart that simplifies and automates the data collection and organization, as well as care delivery, for a particular doctor or medical practice. To understand this comparison more, below are common capabilities each system has, as well as the key benefits. To this extent, you can think of the EFR as your “health and medical” record for your buildings.

Both systems get more valuable when they contain data from the early stages of life. Like people, buildings have starting points and the information and data from the planning, design and build stage are critical for decision making and forecasting when a building gets to the manage and maintain stage.
